ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for portions of the Highlands and New River Valley as cold air and winds return to the region.

Wind speeds will increase with gusts of 30 to 35 mph possible Tuesday. The wind will push cold air into the region, making it feel much colder than the air temperature.

As the cold air moves in, snow is possible along the western slopes of the mountains. The remainder of the area will see mostly clear to partly cloudy conditions.
Snowfall for the western mountains should remain light with one to two inches possible in western Greenbrier, Highland and Pocahontas Counties.

Temperatures will be cooler on Tuesday, starting the day in the 20s before rising into the 30s during the afternoon.
Cold air will remain in place on Wednesday with highs near 30. Temperatures return to the 40s starting on Thursday. The next chance for rain comes in this weekend. Right now, it looks like temperatures will stay warm enough for rain. Cold air returns again on Monday.
