Pinpoint Weather: Mountain snow returns, warmer elsewhere


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for western Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties with a Winter Weather Advisory for western Highland County.

Two to six inches of snow is expected with isolated areas seeing eight inches at the higher elevations through the day on Thursday. The Mountain Empire could see up to one inch of snow at the higher peaks.

Elsewhere, partly to mostly cloudy conditions are expected with a few flurries possibly getting eastward to the Blue Ridge.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for western Pocahontas County where it will feel like -15 overnight. Outside of the western mountains, temperatures will be slightly warmer on Thursday. Temperatures will start the day in the teens and 20s before increasing into the 30s and 40s for the afternoon.

Mild conditions will stick around through Saturday with cooler air arriving on Sunday. Much colder air will move into the region for the first half of next week where temperatures will start in the single digits before rising into the 20s.
