ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Blustery winds and increasing sunshine are slated for Monday. While calmer weather is expected on Tuesday, a storm system will bring snow to Southwest and Central Virginia on Wednesday and Thursday.
Minor flooding continues along portions of the Roanoke and James Rivers. River levels will gradually drop on Monday. Rivers, creeks, and streams will continue to run fast and full, so these areas should be avoided.

Wind Advisories will remain in effect for much of Southwest and Central Virginia through Monday afternoon as winds could gust up to 50 mph. Additional downed trees and power outages are possible. Wind speeds will decrease Monday night.

Snow showers are possible west of the Blue Ridge, but most of the precipitation will wrap up Monday morning. Overall, the day will be colder and blustery with highs in the 30s and lower 40s under increasing sunshine.

High pressure will keep Southwest and Central Virginia mostly dry on Tuesday. Morning lows will be in the 20s. Afternoon temperatures will reach the 30s and 40s. Partly to mostly cloudy skies will be overhead.

A low-pressure system will track away from the Gulf states on Wednesday. While a wintry mix of precipitation is possible, this will be a mainly dry snow event. Highs will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Accumulating snowfall is anticipated with higher amounts east of the Blue Ridge. The bulk of the snow will taper off overnight Wednesday.

An upper-level low will bring mountain snow showers to the areas on Thursday, resulting in additional snow accumulation along western slopes. Otherwise, decreasing cloudiness is expected elsewhere with increasing winds in the forecast. Morning temperatures will start in the teens before reaching the upper 20s and lower 30s by the afternoon. The blustery winds will make it feel even colder outside.
