Roanoke County fire displaces one resident & kills one cat and dog


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the 4800 block of Fort Lewis Road for a reported structure fire.

Crews were dispatched on Wednesday, January 15 around 10:19 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the second-story home.

The fire was caused by combustibles being too close to a heating source. Damages were estimates around $135,000.

One occupant was displaced and is being assisted by the Red Cross. However, one dog and one cat died while three other cats remain unaccounted for.
