North Carolina woman awaiting extradition to Martinsville on murder charges



MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – The Martinsville Police are reporting an arrest in connection to the murder of a 69-year-old woman who was stabbed on Mountain Road in September 2024.

MPD said that on Thursday, January 16, 56-year-old Sherri McGregor of Jacksonville, NC was arrested by Martinsville PD officers and law enforcement in North Carolina on First Degree Murder charges.

According to the police, on September 22, 2024, officers arrived at an apartment on the 1000 block of Mountain Road to find 69-year-old James Carmichael with a knife wound to the chest.

Carmichael was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries.

McGregor is being held in North Carolina without bond while she awaits extradition.
