ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Alleghany Sheriff’s Office has received reports of scam calls claiming to be a deputy for the department.
The phone call comes up as an Unknown Caller who claims to be a deputy for the department informing individuals there is a warrant out for their arrest after failing to appear for jury duty.
To stop the warrant, the caller is telling individuals to visit Love’s Truck Stop and send 500 dollars to the provided electronic code number.
After the money is paid, they are urged to take the receipt to the Sheriff’s Office to confirm the payment was made.
The Sheriff’s Office is telling residents this is a scam as they do not require payments to rescind an arrest warrant.
Residents are urged to be cautious with suspicious calls to avoid being a victim of scammers.
