LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Salvation Army of Lynchburg is staying busy as freezing temperatures bring dangerous conditions.
Lisa Anderson, shelter director, opens the doors at 8 p.m. for anyone in need of a roof over their head. With power outages keeping so many in the cold, she says they’re welcoming folks who’ve lost electricity too.
“The power outages are a big deal now and so we’re asking everyone just to check on your neighbors and let us know if they have someone close by that needs a warm station,” said Anderson.
“You need a place like this when it’s cold so I think it’s a good thing they’ve got going on,” said David Goodrich, who stayed at the shelter Tuesday night.
“Thank God you have somewhere to come keep warm that’s important,” said Ronald Smith, another guest at the shelter.
The shelter offers cots, coffee, and snacks, plus volunteers are staffed throughout the night. If you’d like to help out by volunteering, visit their page. You can also donate. Anderson says they’re looking for extra towels at their 2215 Park Avenue center.
