Roanoke PD conducts community walk and plans for more

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Members of the Roanoke Police Department conducted community outreach on Tuesday, January 21, as part of a monthly tradition.

RPD visited Valley View Mall to meet with business owners to be proactive, not reactive, in certain situations. Officers hope to develop a presence in efforts to show up not just on bad day.

“Most days when people call 9-1-1, it’s a bad day for them, we want to go ahead and be here when it’s a good day, so just because you see an officer doesn’t mean anything bad is happening. We are out here doing something good in the community,” said Lieutenant Michael Thompson with the RPD.

According to RPD, they plan on appearing at several community events in the near future.
