Garage fire on Poor Mountain Road in Roanoke County causes $75k in damages


ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the 6000 block of Poor Mountain Road in the Fort Lewis area for a garage fire on Tuesday, January 21.

Around 5:01 p.m., Roanoke County Police were the first to arrive, finding heavy smoke engulfing the garage that was near the home.

The fire did reach the single-store home frame, however, the fire was brought under control within 35 minutes.

Three adults, one dog, and three birds evacuated the home, and two adults were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. All pets are safe.

The occupants will be displaced from the home but are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Salem Fire & EMS Department assisted crews on the scene.

The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s Office reported the cause of the fire to be combustibles being too close to a heating source.

Damages are estimated at $75,0000.
