Fire in Bonsack area hospitalizes one person, 2k in damages


ROANOKE COUNTY, (WFXR) – Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire in the Bonsack area for an accidental structure fire. 

Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded to the 1900 block of Middle Veley Drive at 2:52 a.m. on Friday, December 6. The Roanoke County Police Department arrived on the scene first and reported heavy smoke inside the home. One officer helped an occupant that was outside of the home.

Fire crews then arrived and learned there were possibly two occupants inside the house. However, one was able to escape while one was still inside the home.

Crews from Wagon 2 helped the person inside, who was in the basement, escape from the rear door of the house.

The fire was under control after 15 minutes.

Fire officials said one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and two residents have been displaced and will be staying with family.

The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s Office was on the scene to investigate and reported the cause was accidental due to combustibles being near a heating source.

Damages are estimated to be $2,000.
