Eight-year-old found dead in Franklin County, father and stepmother charged



FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a father and stepmother after an eight-year-old was found dead in Rocky Mount.

Authorities got a report of an unconscious and unresponsive child in the 100 block of Circle View Street in Rocky Mount around 6 p.m. Saturday, February 8. Emergency responders pronounced the eight-year-old dead at the scene.

Franklin County deputies arrested the child’s father, 46-year-old Michael Eugene Everson of Rocky Mount for one felony county of Child Abuse and Neglect, resulting in Serious Injury.

The child’s stepmother, 32-year-old Mary Marie Everson, was also arrested for one felony count of Child Abuse and Neglect, resulting in Serious Injury plus one misdemeanor count of Simple Assault Against a Family Member.

The child’s body has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy, according to the Sheriff’s Office, who adds the investigation is ongoing and there may be further charges in the case. They say both adults are being held without bond.
