MCPS elects new chair and vice chair for 2025

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Montgomery County School Board has elected the chair and vice chair of 2025.

Linwood Hudson will serve as chair and joined the school board in 2022 and served as its chair in 2024. Hudson also serves as a liaison between the MCPS School Board and the Southwest Virginia Governors School along with the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.

“I’m honored to be re-elected as school board chair for MCPS,” Hudson said. “As a school board member, you serve on behalf of your community, but as a member of leadership, you’re really serving the rest of the board. We come from different backgrounds and have different perspectives, but our board works together amazingly well, and I’m proud to be their chair again. We accomplished so much last year; I’m excited to see what we get done in 2025.”

Laura Purcell will serve as vice chair, and she will start her tenure in 2024. This will be her first time in a leadership position. Purcell serves as a liaison for the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, MCPS School Board, and the Southwest Virginia Governors School.

“I appreciate the trust and support of my colleagues as I step into this role,” Purcell said. “I am honored to serve our community on the school board and will continue to advocate for our students.”
