Floyd man charged in January 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WFXR) – On January 14, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the arrest of a Floyd man for charges in connection to the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

According to the DOJ, on Tuesday, 40-year-old Nathan Bordeaux of Floyd Bordeaux surrendered to the FBI and appeared in front of the Western District of Virginia court. He faces felony charges including assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder.

Bordeaux also faces misdemeanor charges, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings, and parading, picketing, and demonstrating in a Capitol building.

Court records show Bordeaux, and others allegedly disrupted the joint session of the U.S. Congress related to the 2020 presidential election. It is alleged that Bordeaux can be seen on video at the U.S. Capitol building in D.C., on Jan. 6, 2021, fighting officers on the Northwest Capitol grounds and then again later with a police riot shield breaching the Northwest steps alongside other rioters.

The DOJ continues to accuse Bordeaux of advancing to the Upper West Terrace with the riot shield and then at 2:13 p.m., is allegedly again seen on video as one of the first rioters to breach the Capitol doors.

Inside, Bordeaux moved toward the Senate wing, crossed back, and proceeded to the Crypt, where he joined a group of rioters yelling and chanting. Bordeaux then made his way to the Small House Rotunda on the second floor, passed through Statuary Hall, and approached the Speaker’s Lobby doors.

It is alleged that Bordeaux was amongst those inside the Southeast side of the Capitol when a woman was shot and killed, and then opened the doors at 2:47 p.m. to announce that she had been shot, then throwing a water bottle toward a Capitol Police Officer moments later.

Court documents say that Bordeaux also allegedly waved other rioters inside and exited and re-entered the building multiple times.
