Man found dead by gunshot after vehicle chase in Rockbridge County



ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office reports a man has died by gunshot after a vehicle chase in Rockbridge County on January 5.

Around 10:30 pm on Sunday, deputies pulled over a vehicle near Timber Ridge. During the stop, a male driver, later identified as 43-year-old Shane Tyson Lawhorn of Rockbridge County, was asked to exit his vehicle but allegedly refused. He then allegedly fled the scene.

A brief vehicle chase occurred and then ended when Lawhorn’s vehicle crashed. When deputies approached the vehicle, Lawhorn was found slumped over with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Emergency medical services were called, and life-saving measures were immediately performed; however, Lawhorn was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Virginia State Police to investigate the incident.
