GALAX, Va. (WFXR) – Crews responded to a structure fire at the 1400 block of Mallory Road.
On Friday, December 6 around 12:54 a.m. crews arrived and found an exterior fire on the first floor and attic. Two lines were pulled to stop the spread of the fire in the upstairs of the structure.
One cat was rescued and other occupants were accounted for.
The fire was under control within 30 minutes of the operation.
Additional units were requested to assist including the Hillsville Fire Department, Pipers Gap Rescue Squad Inc., Carroll County Sherriff’s Office, Virginia Department of Transportation, and Twin County E-911.
60% of the home was saved and there were no injuries reported. The family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
The fire allegedly started from stove ashes that flared up due to high winds.
