Pinpoint Weather: Strong winds, snow for some


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A High Wind Warning is in effect for Grayson County with a Wind Advisory for all areas west of the Blue Ridge through 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph are possible. Winds will gradually increase overnight and through the morning on Thursday, with a slow decrease in speeds expected during the afternoon and evening.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect for western Pocahontas County, with a Winter Weather Advisory for western Greenbrier and western Highland Counties through Thursday afternoon.

Snow will develop overnight and continue into the day on Thursday. Elsewhere, flurries or light snow showers are possible with, at most, a dusting expected. The western mountains could see two to six inches of snow.

A cold front will move through the region on Thursday, bringing the wind and precipitation. As the front moves east during the afternoon and evening hours, clouds will decrease and so will the wind speeds.

Temperatures will slowly drop overnight and continue to drop throughout the day on Thursday. Daytime highs will occur around 7 a.m., with temperatures about ten degrees cooler by late afternoon.

Temperatures will remain below average on Friday and Saturday, with near to above-average temperatures returning Sunday and into next week. Showers are possible on Monday and Tuesday, with steady rain expected on Wednesday.
