LCS updates cell phone policy for K-12, learn more

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – The Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) has announced a recently updated policy on personal electronic devices in the learning environment.

When students return from winter break on January 6, 2025, the policy will be in effect meaning electronic devices are not allowed during the bell-to-bell school day for all K-12 students.

Students will no longer be allowed to use devices from the start of the school day until the bell to dismissal rings. It also means in between classes.

Students who ride the bus must also follow this rule unless it is approved by the driver to use electronic devices.

“This policy update reflects our commitment to creating a consistent and distraction-free learning environment across all grade levels,” said Dr. Ben Copeland, LCS Interim Superintendent. “By reducing interruptions caused by personal devices, we can better support students’ academic and social development.”

Families are encouraged to look at the updated policies to help decrease distractions while learning. To read the full policy click here.
