Pinpoint Weather: Cooler Saturday, rain on Sunday

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Record high temperatures were reported again on Friday in parts of the region. Danville saw a high of 80 with Lynchburg at 81.

Records will be safe this weekend as cooler air filters into the region. Temperatures will start Saturday morning in the 40s with highs in the 60s.

The region is on the back side of a cold front which will allow cooler air to move in to start the weekend. Another front arrives Sunday into Monday, bringing cooler air and the chance for rain for the second half of the weekend.

Rainfall across the region is expected between 0.25″ and 0.75″, bringing the dry streak in the region to an end. Lynchburg is expected to get to 38 dry days before rain hits. That’s the second-longest rain-free period on record behind 40 days in October and November 2001.

Temperatures will get cooler with the rain on Sunday with many areas staying in the 50s. Temperatures return to the 60s and 70s next week with another chance for rain on Thursday.
