Sheriff identified man charged in ongoing drug investigation


AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Amherst County Sheriff reports the arrest of a man connected to an extensive drug investigation that allegedly ended with a standoff in Evington on November 7.

On Monday, November 4, a search warrant was served at a home on Timberlake Road in Lynchburg after information was received by the Amherst County Sheriff regarding an already active investigation.

During the search, around 4 pounds of methamphetamines, 2 ounces of fentanyl, an unknown amount of powdered cocaine, a large amount of Xanax pills, 4 handguns, and 1 assault rifle were allegedly recovered.

Following the search, arrest warrants were obtained for Ardrius K. Dews.

On Thursday, November 7, it was learned that Dews was located at an address on Lawyers Road in Evington. A search warrant was then obtained and executed at that residence. However, Dews allegedly refused to surrender to law enforcement, resulting in an extended standoff.

It wasn’t until around 8:02 p.m. that Dews was finally taken into custody.

Ardrius K. Dews has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Violent Felon in Possession x2
  • Possession With Intent to Distribute Meth, 3rd or Subsequent
  • Possession With Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, 3rd or Subsequent
  • Possession With Intent to Distribute Schedule I/II Controlled Substance, 3rd or Subsequent
  • Possession With Intent to Distribute Meth over 100 grams
  • Possess Firearm in Possession of Schedule I/II Narcotics
  • Possession With Intent to Distribute Schedule III Controlled Substance (Xanax)
  • Attempted Terrorism – Fentanyl

The sheriff says the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
