Springhouse receives ‘Nonprofit of the Year’ award in Floyd

FLOYD, Va. (WFXR) – A leading nonprofit organization, Springhouse, has received the “Nonprofit of the Year” award in the field of transformative education.

The award from the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce was given at the annual dinner held in November of 2024. It recognizes Springhouse for their great impact on education within the community by fostering unity and respecting diversity.

Those present to accept the award for the organization included Springhouse Executive Director Jenny Finn and Development Director Carolyn Reilly.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce for this recognition,” said Jenny Finn, Executive Director of Springhouse. “This award is a testament to the passion and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters who persistently work to transform education in ways that lead to a thriving world. We are deeply honored to be a part of the Floyd community as we continue to reimagine what education can and should be.”

Springhouse was founded in 2014 to provide holistic, vitality-centered learning opportunities for students of all ages and to encourage engagement with the community and create significant educational experiences.

Floyd nonprofit leaders will organize monthly meetings with Springhouse to facilitate community internships and foster connections with high school students. In 2024, Springhouse also allowed elementary-age leaders to join the two-way language immersion program along with welcoming those with Spanish as their first language.

Springhouse has grown to be a major component to education innovation in the region.

“We believe a foundational aspect of education is about waking up to the gift of being alive on the planet at this time—it’s about nurturing the whole person and preparing individuals to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world,” said Carolyn Reilly, Development Director. “Being recognized as Nonprofit of the Year is a wonderful affirmation of the work we are doing, and we’re committed to continue carrying out our mission of transforming the purpose and practice of education, both in Floyd and around the world.”
