ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – With heavy snowfall and slick roads likely, officials are warning anyone who does not have to travel, to stay at home. Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a state of emergency ahead of the wintry mix.
One driver is on his way home to Delaware from New Orleans, where he and his wife went to support their favorite team: the Eagle as they won the Super Bowl this past weekend. To him, keeping a safe eye on the road is paramount in hazardous conditions like we could see during this storm.
“Been going at least 10, 15 miles slower. Hazards a lot. The plow trucks have been out frequently so far. Up to this point, I’ve seen six accidents and it’s usually spun out. And from what I could tell, it’s usually people not paying attention to speed, not taking their time,” said Dennis Smith, who’s from Claymont Delaware, “Just go slow. It’s going to be an inconvenience either way. I’d rather see people make it home safe. You know, slow and steady wins the race type of deal.”
Virginia State Police say if you have to go out, make sure you are buckled in, have your headlights and windshield wipers on, and be sure to leave plenty of room between you and any plows or emergency vehicles you see.
