Pinpoint Weather: Winter Storm Warning through Wednesday

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Winter Storm Warning is in effect across all of southwest and central Virginia through Wednesday afternoon. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected over the next couple of days.

More snow will fall in the north where cold air is expected to hold on longer, with less falling in the south.

As warm air moves into the region a few thousand feet above ground, snow will change to sleet and freezing rain, with possibly significant icing, especially along the southern Blue Ridge.

Snow will move into the region in the early morning hours on Tuesday, changing to sleet and eventually freezing rain from south to north. Many areas will see a wintry mix Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Temperatures will fall overnight into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Temperatures will hold steady through the day on Tuesday, possibly going down a degree or two in a few areas.

Temperatures will remain chilly on Wednesday but should go slightly above freezing in the afternoon. Temperatures return to the 40s on Thursday and Friday. Rain moves in this weekend. The rain could be heavy at times.
