Multi-sport ‘Adventure Series’ races returns to Virginia State Parks for 2025

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) – The weather is warming up and outdoor enthusiasts and runners should be shaking off the dust. Virginia State Parks’ one-of-a-kind multi-sport race series returns on March 8.

The Adventure Series, presented by Dominion Energy, is a 20-race series from the mountains to the coast and includes triathlons, mountain biking, adventure races, and more across 11 different parks in Virginia.

2025 has some exciting changes for anyone who has participated in the series before like a range of difficulties and distances for all skill levels, a new scoring system, and the removal of bonus races. However, the Tour de Pocahontas and New River Trail Challenge will be making a return, as well as the addition of the Seven Bends Aquablaze, a 7-mile sprint that combines running and kayaking on June 15 at Seven Bends State Park.

Winners can expect prizes by earning points in competitive or the achievement category which includes Virginia State Parks gift cards, cash, and REI gift cards.

“The Virginia State Parks Adventure Series, presented by Dominion Energy, is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the thrilling sporting events our state parks offer,” said Promotions Manager Steve Boyd. “This series includes something for everyone—whether you’re a beginner or an experienced athlete—with events ranging from 5Ks and adventure races to triathlons and ultramarathons. Join us for an unforgettable race weekend and experience the incredible beauty and activities our parks provide!”
