Lynchburg City Schools responds to Sandusky Middle School arrests

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) released a written statement Wednesday afternoon responding to the arrests of three 14-year-old males at Sandusky Middle School. The statement states that the safety and well-being of the students and staff remain its top priority.

“We are committed to maintaining secure learning environments and take any potential threat to school safety extremely seriously,” the statement said.

It did not release any specifics on the students’ disciplinary actions, but did share bringing a weapon to school is a violation of school board policy and can result in at least one year of expulsion.

The statement said LCS has taken several measures, including setting up a tip line for people to report safety concerns, but it also calls on parents to take action.

“We urge parents to help us keep our school environments safe by speaking with their children about safety and checking their bags to help ensure that only school-appropriate items are being brought to school,” the statement said.

LCS expressed its thanks to the middle school’s staff and security, and the Lynchburg Police Department for their response Monday, making sure everyone was safe.
