WATCH: The Salem Christmas Parade

SALEM, Va. (WFXR) – The Salem Christmas Parade returns on Friday, and if you’re planning to attend or are in the nearby area, there are some things to look out for.

Main Street in downtown Salem will be closed from Fourth Street down to College Avenue beginning at 5 p.m.

The festivities will begin at 6 a.m. with the tree lighting outside the Salem Public Library and the parade will begin at 6:15 p.m.

No matter how cold it gets, the parade will go on, so if you are planning to attend, dress warm.

“We’re looking for great weather as far as no rain,” said Eddie Hite, president of the Salem Kiwanis Club which puts on the event each year. “It will be cold. It’s December. I wish it would be warmer; we had great weather a couple weeks ago. People have asked and yes, we are going to have the parade so just bundle up.”

Parking will be limited and all vehicles must be moved from Main Street by mid-day Friday.

There will be designated areas for observers to stand this year as portions of the sidewalk are currently under construction.
