Donations needed for some of Roanoke’s younger neighbors

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Helping neighbors in need, The Villages at Lincoln Neighborhood Council are seeking some of Santa’s helpers and bringing a little holiday cheer to Roanoke residents.

WFXR’s Hazelmarie Anderson spoke with Villages at Lincoln Resident Council, Treasurer Tamika Felix, and President of Joint Resident Council Duane Smith about their Christmas bash and why the Star City residents must lend a helping hand and bring some joy to their fellow neighbors in need.

“We want to give children the attention, gifts, and love they might not be getting,” shares Felix.

This year, The Villages at Lincoln Resident Council are collecting toys, clothes, hygiene products, and more than 120 children and 100 senior residents living in lower-income housing for Christmas.

“Years ago, we all took care of those who are less fortunate, and today, we have a lot of youth and seniors who are struggling, and when you are on a fixed income, it’s not easy. So we want to do something and give back,” shares Smith.
