Book a singing valentine with ‘The Virginia Blend’

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Valentine’s Day is almost here and love is in the air. It’s time to start thinking about creative ways to make a lasting impression on the one you love.

The Virginia Blend is a barbershop quartet based in Roanoke. Formally, known as the Virginia Gentlemen, they changed their name after the addition of about five women to their chorus. Larry Shepherd joined Hazelmarie Anderson in the studio on Friday, February 7, and said if you’re looking for something different or creative to show that special someone you care, the group will travel to just about anywhere in the Roanoke Valley dressed in full tuxedo.

They will sing one or two love songs, as well as deliver a rose and a Valentine’s Day card to anyone wherever they are. Larry said they offer multiple song choices including ‘Let Me Call You Sweetheart’ and ‘Pardon My Heart I Love You.’

Larry said he has been with the group for about 23 years. It is also a fundraiser with the funds going towards supporting the chorus and the purchase of new attire and music.

A barbershop quartet is a four-part harmony with a lead, baritone, bass, and tenor. Larry said they are always looking for new members and if anyone is interested in joining and can carry a tune, to give them a call.

The Virginia Blend is available this Valentine’s Day on February 13 and 14 at home, work, or “anywhere in between” with packages ranging from $75 to $125.
