Website imposters
When buying that special gift for your loved one, an important factor to watch out for is websites. Consumers need to be aware of imposter websites as scammers can easily fake jewelry sales and use fake sale promotions and logos of popular brands to attract online shoppers.
It is also important to be aware of fake online dating profiles as it is easy to steal personal information.
Red flags to consider include the following:
- Products are available at extreme discounts.
- The seller requests customers pay withcash transfer apps or cryptocurrency.
- Customer service is unreachable.
Romance scams
Romance scammers usually target those who are vulnerable, for example, people who have recently experienced a breakup or other hardships. Scammers often try to gain connections and use acts of sympathy to target their victim with their end goal being money.

What to do if you encounter a scam
If you believe you are being targeted by a scammer, cut all contact off by blocking the number or account. Dating app users should also report a scam to the app if they encounter a false person.
