47-year-old motorcyclist identified after crash in Campbell County



UPDATE: 1/31 1:25 P.M. CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in Campbell County on January 29.

On Wednesday, a 2018 Kawasaki ZX10 was heading south on Wards Road when it wasn’t able to avoid a 2022 Ram 5500 that pulled out from a parking lot, police said. The Ram was attempting to get into the northbound lanes when the motorcycle hit the Ram on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The motorcyclist was identified as 47-year-old John T. Payne II, of Hurt, Va. Payne was wearing his helmet but died at the scene.

Charges are pending.

The crash is still under investigation.



CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Altavista Fire Company responded to a fatal car accident near Wards Road and Gladys Road on Wednesday.

On January 29, crews responded around 6:24 p.m. and found a collision between a truck and a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist died was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was unharmed.

The road was temporarily closed while emergency services and investigators were on site.

Virginia State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
