‘Too good to be true,” Alleghany County Sheriff warns of new prize scam



ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office has reported of several complaints of a new scam alert.

Citizens have said they are being contacted by scammers saying they are representatives from Publishers Clearinghouse, Insurance companies, and other businesses.

To claim a prize they are giving callers a code and a phone number, however, it is important to not call them or give personal information to them over the phone.

It is also important to note that scammers can easily prey on the older residents as talkers can be very persuasive.

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office said if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.
