WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office announced a $100,000 grant to enhance law enforcement in small communities.
Chief Deputy Anthony Cline with the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office secured the grant from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services through the Operation Ceasefire Grant.
This grant will provide an increased presence of law enforcement in small communities including, Ivanhoe, Max Meadows, Cripple Creek, Crockett, Speedwell, and the Town of Rural Retreat.
Deputies will receive overtime pay to help increase public safety and crime prevention efforts. This will create a visible law enforcement presence along with fostering strong relationships within the community to address concerns.
“This grant is a tremendous step forward in our commitment to protecting and serving the citizens of Wythe County,” said Chief Deputy Anthony Cline. “With these additional resources, we can dedicate more deputies to these communities, ensuring a proactive approach to crime prevention and public safety.”
Chief Deputy Cline has previously secured $66,000 grant funding for Barren Springs and Austinville communities to enhance deputy presence, which created a notable reduction in crime. This will allow law enforcement efforts to continue their ongoing commitment to improve safety for residents.
Residents should expect to see an increase in police presence in neighborhoods along with engagements with the community.
