Wrong way driver killed after collision with tractor-trailer in Alleghany County



ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police are investigating a serious two-vehicle crash in Alleghany County that killed an 86-year-old man from Buena Vista on January 21.

VSP said around 12:53 a.m. on Tuesday, a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 86-year-old Edmond Thomas Floyd of Buena Vista was heading east in the westbound lane of I-64 near Dabney Drive. Mr. Floyd then collided with a Kenworth tractor-trailer head-on traveling west.

Floyd was pronounced dead at the scene and was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment and was later released. Police said he was wearing his seatbelt.

Police said the crash is still being investigated.
