Wanted man arrested in Radford after pursuit with stolen vehicle



RADFORD, Va. (WFXR) – Police in Radford said a wanted man was arrested after a car chase with a stolen vehicle on February 10.

According to the RCPD, around 9:19 a.m. on Monday, officers found a vehicle reported stolen at the 1200 block of Rock Road East with the driver inside.

Officers attempted to contact the driver, who was later identified as 43-year-old Joey Lyn Phipps of Bluefield; however, the vehicle allegedly drove away, starting a pursuit.

The chase occurred for about six miles until two successful deployments of “Stop Sticks” forced the vehicle to stop.

Phipps was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • Felony Eluding
  • Possession of Stolen Goods

He was also served on outstanding warrants for violating probation in connection to Possession of Schedule II Drugs, Burglary, and Possession of a Weapon after Being Declared a Felon.

Phipps is currently being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
