Virginia Tech welcomes 2025 baseball season with 17th annual Blacksburg Night

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia Tech is officially gearing up for the 2025 baseball season with the highly anticipated 17th Annual Blacksburg Night banquet. The event serves as the official season opener, promising an evening of celebration, camaraderie, and inspiration for fans, players, and alumni alike.

This year’s banquet featured Billy Wagner, a renowned figure in the baseball community, as the keynote speaker. Wagner’s career and passion for the game made him an ideal choice to motivate and engage the Hokie faithful as the team prepares for the challenges ahead.

Billy Wagner said, “All of real southwest Virginia fans are Hokie fans. So coming here has just always been a great event for me. I’ve spoken here when P Hughes was here and I’ve been to many, many, many games and football games. So getting back on campus is always a treat for me.”

Head coach John Szefc said, “I mean a guy like Billy is in easy alignment because he’s from this area and I mean, he’s he’s accomplished the highest, the very highest honor that any baseball player could be given.”

Held at the popular Inn at Virginia Tech, the event provided an opportunity for Hokie fans to connect with players and coaching staff, while also supporting the program through silent auctions and raffles.

With the baseball season just around the corner, the banquet marks an exciting start to a hopeful unforgettable year of Hokie baseball.
