Veterans Day event canceled after fire



ALTAVISTA, Va. (WFXR) — National Center for Healthy Veterans has canceled their Veterans Day event after a fire burned a barn on their property to the ground.

The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause. The Sheriff says deputies arrived to find the building fully engulfed. There were no injuries, but the Center’s Veterans Day event on the property is canceled. Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears was listed as they keynote speaker.

The Center itself is still open.

They posted to Facebook, “This is a tragic loss, but only causes us to redouble our efforts to Return Healthy Veterans to America. Programs continue, and rebuilding begins!”

Altavista Fire Department, Evington Fire Department, Gladys Fire Department, and Campbell County Public Safety also responded to the fire.
