A crash sent a vehicle off the Arlington Memorial Bridge, plunging into the icy Potomac River below Thursday evening.
Around 6:50 p.m., a vehicle went off the side of the bridge into the river after a collision with another vehicle. The vehicle was completely submerged, officials said, and divers were dispatched to conduct a water rescue.

Two people inside the other car involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, DC Fire and EMS spokesperson Vito Maggiolo told WTOP. Responders are currently trying to free the sole occupant still inside the vehicle that went into the river.
U.S. Park Police confirmed with WTOP that all lanes of the bridge will remain closed for “an extended period of time.”
U.S. Park Police is leading the investigation into the crash; they are launching a criminal investigation.
