ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Clogged pipes are often an issue after homeowners pour things down their drain and Aqua Virginia advises residents to be mindful.
With holidays around the corner, families gather together, and the kitchen often becomes the critical aspect of the home.
Aqua Virginia is reminding residents that fats, oils, and other greases often solidify and clog pipes causing costly repairs.
Here are some tips to have clog-free pipes during the holiday season.
- Never pour grease (including turkey drippings!) down sink drains or toilets. Carefully pour warm grease into a metal can, wait for it to cool, and dispose of it in the trash.
- Dispose of food scraps and grease into a trash can – especially butter, lard, sauces, and dairy products that can congeal and contribute to blockages.
- Use strainers in sink drains to catch food scraps and other solids and dispose of them in a trash can.
