HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The National Fitness Campaign in Virginia, Aetna, and Henry County Parks & Recreation have teamed up to bring a new ‘fitness court’ to the area.
The goal is to deliver an outdoor fitness and digital wellness program to Henry’s County starting Tuesday, November 19. The ‘Fitness Court’ is located at 1000 Irisburg Road in Axton and will make working out accessible and free for the community.
The outdoor gym allows people to use body weights during their workouts with seven exercise stations.
“We want to set our residents up for success in their journeys to a healthier lifestyle,” said Garrett Dillard, Supervisor of the Iriswood District. “This Fitness Court will serve to eliminate common barriers to physical fitness, such as lack of access, lack of funds, and lack of knowledge on techniques. By partnering with Aetna and the National Fitness Campaign on this initiative, we hope to create a more active and healthy community in Henry County.”
The workouts are adaptable as the gym was created for people ages 14 and over with all abilities. Participants can also use the free Fitness Court App which brings a coach-in-your-pocket feel to enhance the workout experience.
“Aetna is committed to the health and wellness of the members and communities we serve, ” said Bill Deal, market head, public and labor, Aetna. “The path to wellness starts by getting people engaged in their own health. The Fitness Court is an innovative, challenging, and fun way to provide opportunity and empower people on their path to good health.
“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome Henry County, Virginia, to the campaign as a leader in Virginia, championing health and wellness for their residents,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the Fitness Court, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrated a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the community.”
