The landmark Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre announces grand reopening

WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – The landmark Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre in Wytheville has announced its grand reopening and rebranding of the restaurant to The Red Stag Restaurant and Matterhorn Lounge.

The Sutphin family founded the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre and Wythe County staple in 1999. For 25 years the Sutphin’s German heritage-themed restaurant has entertained guests with music, concerts, plays, and other events. The establishment was put up for auction in November 2024 and is now owned and operated by Dr. Amanda Brewer-Lord and her family, who said she “wants to continue the Sutphin family legacy and continue the property as a Dinner Theatre and Restaurant.”

The Red Stag Restaurant reopens to the public on Tuesday, January 21 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Special events are scheduled to begin on January 31, with local country artist Jon Roth, who has also performed on cruise ships worldwide. They then continue with The Many Voices of Jill Spicker, Valentine’s with Elvis, Let’s Get Rowdy and Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The main season then kicks off on February 28 with acts and guests lined up through December that include The Foreigner, Peace in the Valley, Mountain Music, The Music Man, Fabulous 50s & 60s, She Loves Me, and A Motown Christmas.
