ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The AEP power outage map has been updated with new numbers showing the restoration of power to many customers throughout the Southwest Virginia Region.
After strong winds came across our region on Wednesday, November 20, many residents, businesses, and schools are experiencing power outages.
Appalachian Power worked through the night to restore power to almost 45% of the 11,600 customers who lost electricity services on Wednesday due to winds up to 50 mph.
Situation
Appalachian Power crews worked through the night to restore power to nearly 45% of the 11,600 customers that lost electric service Wednesday evening. Widespread rain and wind gusts of 50 mph brought down trees and power lines across the company’s Virginia service territory.
Outages
As of 9 a.m., approximately 6,500 customers are without power. The most severely affected areas are Roanoke (1,400 customers); Fieldale (1,170 customers); Wytheville (950 customers) and Woodlawn (700 customers).

Weather is favorable for restoration work.
Restoration Estimates
Estimated times of restoration for 90% of customers who can take electric service are:
- 4 p.m. Thursday for the Bluefield area
- 6 p.m. Thursday for the Pulaski and Wytheville areas
- 9 p.m. Thursday for the Christiansburg, Glen Lyn, and Woodlawn areas
