“Steadfast dedication,” Roanoke Fire & EMS says thanks to Interim City Manager Dr. Lydia Patton


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – On January 19, Roanoke Fire and EMS gave the now former Interim City Manager, Dr. Lydia Patton, gratitude and thanks for her “steadfast dedication” while guiding Star City.

“We say farewell—but never goodbye—to Dr. Lydia Patton, also known as ‘Doc.’

In a social media post released on Sunday, Roanoke FD said that during her time as Interim City Manager, Dr. Patton “guided the department with wisdom, compassion, and steadfast support.”

Roanoke FD said that Dr. Patton’s assistance resulted in “tremendous progress on key projects” and that her dedication to the citizens of Roanoke, as well as her faith and unwavering belief in the department will leave a “lasting mark on our hearts and our city.”

“We’ll cherish the memories of her enjoying ice cream in the summer with our team and the lighthearted competition between Chief Hoback and Chief Booth as she quietly won us all over with her warmth and kindness,” the post continued. “Dr. Patton, your impact is immeasurable, and your presence will be deeply missed. Thank you for everything you’ve given to our department and our community. Until we meet again, you’ll always have a special place in Roanoke’s story. “

Dr. Patton’s time as Interim ended with the swearing-in of the new Roanoke City Manager, Valmarie Turner on Monday, January 13.

“Mrs. Turner will do an excellent job,” Doctor L. Pettis Patton, the former Roanoke interim city manager, said. “She has vast experience in municipal government, and it takes experience in government in order to be a good city manager, so I’m delighted to pass the torch to her, and for her to lead this wonderful city.”

Despite Doctor Pettis Patton saying that she admitted she would miss Roanoke. She will miss the people and the view of the mountains.
