Six people and two animals displaced after fire in Campbell County

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Campbell County Fire responded to a reported fire at 172 Pearl Lane.

On Thursday, December 5 around 11:30 a.m. crews responded to the scene and found a shed on fire with the wind pushing the flames into the vicinity of a single-wide trailer causing it to ignite.

Crews were able to contain the fire and extinguish it within 30 minutes.

According to fire officials, the cause of the fire was determined to be a burn barrel that was used the night before which still contained hot embers, resulting in the igniting of leaves and the shed.

Six people and two animals were displaced but no injuries were reported. The Red Cross is working with the family.

Crews on the scene included: Rustburg Fire Department, Concord Fire Department, Gladys Fire Department, Campbell County Public Safety, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, and Campbell County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Residents are reminded to use caution with outdoor burning.

Campbell County Fire Marshal, Randall Johnson said, “For safety, when planning an open burn, be mindful of the current and future wind conditions. Wind can quickly spread open fires. Wind can also reignite smoldering fires in the hours/days after you have finished an outdoor burn, unless the fire is completely extinguished.”
