UPDATE 8:53 P.M. ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Department of Wildlife Resources has shared more information about the death of a kayaker in Rockbridge County.
On Saturday evening, 20-year-old Octavia Richardson and her friend capsized their kayaks on the James River near Glasgow. Her friend was able to make it to shore, where he was treated for symptoms of hypothermia, according to DWR.
The search for Richarson continued Sunday when they found her near Locher Landing at 4:17 p.m. DWR says the medical examiner’s officer will determine her cause of death.
They add that neither kayaker was wearing a life jacket.

UPDATE 5:22 P.M. ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Department of Wildlife Resources says the missing kayaker was found dead Sunday.
20-year-old Octavia Richardson from Buena Vista was kayaking with a friend who did make it out of the water, according to DWR. Richardson was found at 4:17 p.m. Sunday; she had been missing since Saturday night.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources is searching for a missing kayaker.
DWR says she went missing Saturday on the James River. The search began Saturday night and continued Sunday morning. Because of low water conditions, an official at the scene says crews haven’t been able to use all of their equipment in the search.
