Forest Hills 3, West Shamokin 1: In Rural Valley, the third-seeded Rangers topped the second-seeded Wolves 25-17, 16-25, 25-19, 25-20.

Forest Hills, which has beaten West Shamokin in the title game of its own kickoff tournament in 2023 and 2024, will play top-seeded Richland at 2 p.m. Saturday inside Altoona Area High School’s Fieldhouse. The Rangers beat the Rams in four sets Sept. 5.

Forest Hills was the 2023 District 6 runner-up and advanced to the PIAA semifinals. Both Forest Hills and Richland have clinched spots in the PIAA tournament.

Mya Colosimo led Forest Hills with 15 kills and 15 digs. Julia Chunta totaled 51 assists, 13 digs and two aces. Eva Myers provided 11 kills, two aces and two blocks. Paxtyn Pcola netted 11 kills and seven digs, and Addie Webb chipped in 10 kills and six digs.

Elli Richardson amassed eight kills.

Morgan Gdula netted 14 digs, Sophia Jacobs added 13 and Kira Slaughter produced 12.

District 5-9 Subregional Tournament

Class 2A Championship

Bedford 3, St. Marys 1: In Bedford, Grant Koontz scored twice, and Owen Lantz added a marker as the Bisons beat the Flying Dutchmen.

Bedford (14-3-3) scored twice in the final 10 minutes to break a 1-all tie.

The Bisons will play the District 7 runner-up, Avonworth or South Park, Tuesday in the first round of the PIAA tournament.

Greensburg Salem 3, Westmont Hilltop 2 (OT): In Greensburg, Ace Klingensmith scored 1:27 into overtime to lead the Golden Lions over the Hilltoppers.

Jeremiah Faulk gave Greensburg Salem a 1-0 lead 6:59 into the first period. Westmont Hilltop’s Connor Jones knotted the game at 1-all with assists going to Colby Carlson and Cullen Carlson. 

In the second period, Nathan Ross gave the Golden Lions a 2-1 edge. Brett Hoffman tied the game with an assist going to Ethan Downey 12:10 into the stanza. 

No scoring occurred in the third period. There were only three penalties called. 

Westmont Hilltop’s Megan Harbaugh made 27 saves. 

Avonworth 9, Richland 0: In Warrendale, Conner Ralston totaled three goals and an assist as the Antelopes blanked the Rams. 

Danny Mack made eight saves in the shutout. Linus Jesionowski and Jimmy Shields each provided two goals. Randy Bevan and Richard Malsch netted one marker apiece. 

Avonworth outshot Richland 46-8.
