Roanoke City Police investigating ‘Offensive Banner’ found on Elm Ave Bridge



ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke City Police are investigating after a banner was found on the Elm Ave Bridge allegedly containing offensive or hate speech on November 22.

Around 6:54 a.m. on Friday, RPD received reports of an “offensive banner” hanging on the Elm Bridge located on the 300 block of Elm Ave SE, according to police.

The banner was immediately removed by officers with Roanoke Police after arriving at the scene. 

Roanoke PD told WFXR News they are investigating this offense as “potentially being motivated by hate or bias” and said, “We are working with our federal partners to continue to monitor the situation.”
