Roanoke City Council took oaths of office and welcomed Joe Cobb



ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Roanoke City Council took their oaths of office on Monday, December 29, and welcomed the star city’s Mayor Democrat Joe Cobb after winning the job in the closest mayoral race in Roanoke history.

The council welcomed three new members including Democrats Terry McGuire and Phazhon Nash. McGuire will be Roanoke’s new Vice Mayor.

Nick Hagen was also sworn in on Monday as the city council’s first Republican in more than two decades.

“I’m looking forward to working with this new council. I think it’s going to be a great team of people. Looking forward to welcoming our new City Manager Val Marie Turner,” said Joe Cobb. “We’ve got a lot of transition taking place but everyone is committed to moving our city forward, so I’m excited about the potential.”

The council will first meet on Monday, January 6, 2025.
