Roanoke City Council narrows down candidates for empty seat



ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The City of Roanoke is working through a selection process to fill the City Council seat of Joe Cobb, after he won the election as Mayor.

The seat can be vacated though December 31, 2026, however, the Roanoke City Council has received 11 statements from residents who are interested in serving the role.

Here are the names who have submitted statements:

  • Manuel R. Dotson
  • James C. Martin IV
  • Kathy S. Cohen
  • Cameron Chase
  • William Hunter Hartley
  • Gregory L. Hunt
  • Ollie Howie
  • Patrice M. Hampton
  • Patricia White-Boyd
  • Ryan Bell
  • Evelyn W. Powers

After reviewing the Council selected Kathy S. Cohen, Evelyn W. Powers, and Patricia White-Boyd to continue to the interview stage. Interviews will be held at the City Council Chamber on Monday, February 3 at 11 a.m. after an informal session at 9 a.m.

“The City Council will be transparent through the process in selecting an individual to fill the seat who fits best in representing the community and works well with the governing body.”
