Pinpoint Weather: Wind Advisory, cold next week


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Wind Advisory is in effect for areas near and west of the Blue Ridge through 4 a.m. on Friday. Wind gusts to 50 mph are possible.

Wind speeds will increase through midnight, then start to decrease with calmer winds expected during the day on Friday.

Snow showers will wind down overnight for the western mountains with sunshine returning for the entire area during the day on Friday. Clouds will return Friday night with showers possible on Saturday. As the rain begins Saturday morning, there could be a couple of hours of freezing rain, especially in the New River Valley. Any icing would be short-lived and light.

Temperatures for Friday will return to near-average levels with morning lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s.

On Sunday, cold air will filter into the region. Rain is possible which could quickly turn to light snow before ending Sunday night. It is too early to say how much we could get. Cold air then moves in with highs for the first half of next week in the 20s and lows in the single digits. Temperatures return to the 30s on Thursday.
