ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Rain will move into the region on Thursday. The rain appears to be light in the morning with heavier rain the afternoon as a cold front slides to the east.
Until noon on Thursday, parts of the Highlands could see freezing rain. A few areas in the New River Valley could see it as well. Icing should remain light and impact elevated surfaces.
Beneficial rainfall is expected from the system with rainfall of 0.75″ to 1.25″ inches expected.
With cold air continuing to flow into the region and the lack of sunshine, temperatures will be chilly on Thursday. Temperatures will start the day in the 30s, only rising into the 40s during the afternoon.
Right now, it does not appear we will set any records for the coolest high temperatures. The region should stay several degrees above those.
As the system moves out on Friday, temperatures will rebound into the 50s. Temperatures return to the 60s starting on Saturday. The next chance for rain after Thursday is Wednesday.
