ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of central Virginia and Southside for Friday into Saturday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the remainder of the region.

With cold air remains in place, which means precipitation should be snow. In the south, a little sleet may mix in from time to time. The Mountain Empire could begin to see snow around noon on Wednesday with most of the region being impacted by 5 p.m. Snow will end from west to east. Areas west of the Blue Ridge will see snow exit by 4 a.m. with all areas done with the snow by 7 a.m.
For most of the region, two to four inches of snow is expected with a little less in the north where one to two inches is forecast. Locally higher amounts are possible. Snow will continue into the afternoon on Saturday for the western mountains where four to seven inches is expected.

Temperatures on Friday will go above freezing for a couple of hours with high temperatures occurring one to three hours earlier than normal.
As snow moves out, wind speeds will increase with gusts to 30 mph possible on Saturday. Wind speeds should decrease on Saturday night.

Temperatures will get slightly warmer this weekend and on Monday with highs in the 30s and 40s. Temperatures drop again starting on Tuesday with highs returning to the 20s and 30s.
